Some Johor residents have expressed their disappointment after their scheduled Covid-19 vaccine appointments were pushed back without any reasons given.
Tan Chun Boon from Batu Pahat said his appointment on July 31 disappeared suddenly and was later rescheduled to Aug 2.
"I was delighted to see my first appointment on the MySejahtera mobile application showing July 27. On July 29, I found I was rescheduled to another date and venue.
"I was redirected to Persada International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, not Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), which is close to where I stay," said Tan, who works at a fabric printing company.
The 43-year-old then tried his luck at the UTHM vaccination centre and was given a shot on July 31 after he showed the staff a screenshot of his original appointment.
He also said he encountered some technical issues with his mobile application.
"A staff member told me I was the third person who faced similar issues.
"If this is indeed a system issue, I appeal to the government to immediately fix the problem as this may cause problems to elders who reside in remote areas," Tan told Malaysiakini when contacted.
Meanwhile, Taman Megah Batu Pahat DAP chief Chong Chee Wai said Tan's case was not an isolated one as he received or knew of at least 10 other similar cases in Johor over the past three days.
"Of the 10 cases, two happened in Batu Pahat, six in Johor Bahru, and two in Muar. Besides Tan, I received calls from two men in their 50s from Batu Pahat on July 29. Their appointments were pushed back to Aug 5 from July 31.
"They were supposed to receive their first dose at the UTHM vaccination centre but now they were told to travel some 120km away to Persada International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru," he said.
"Too bad they couldn't prove their cases as they did not screenshot their initial appointments in the mobile application.
"I also received a call from a Muar resident who was supposed to receive his vaccine on Aug 1 and was surprised to see his appointment rescheduled to two days later in Johor Bahru, some 170km away from his hometown.
"Despite this, most of them said they were still willing to travel to Johor Bahru as they have already waited so long," Chong added.
Similarly, six individuals from Johor Bahru were redirected to receive their vaccines at the Persada vaccination centre with a rescheduled time, according to him.
He said checks with the vaccination centre and hotline have found that the problem arose due to a system issue.
Chong said he only referred the complaints of individuals who took screenshots of their original appointments to the person in charge of the relevant vaccination centres.
"Those who encountered problems told me they were willing to travel to Johor Bahru for their vaccination. But such issues should not have occurred in the first place.
